The foragebeef.ca website is the result of the vision of Duane McCartney, retired Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada forage and beef systems scientist and extensionist. McCartney’s desire was to ensure that forage information was not lost and that a dynamic record of forage and beef knowledge be useful to all producers.
.
“Duane wanted foragebeef.ca to truly be a Western Canadian website with contributions of factsheets and research coming from all across Canada and the world,” says Ken Ziegler, forage/beef specialist with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development. “His idea was for the website to be very user friendly for producers, extension specialists and industry specialists.”

The initial topic input came from many producers and forage specialists across Canada. After Duane retired, Ziegler and Stephanie Kosinski, also a forage/beef specialist with Alberta Agriculture, have kept foragebeef.ca current and updated.

“This website is always looking for new research, particularly literature reviews on specific forage related topic areas, as well as good factsheets to add,” says Kosinski.
